How to join
We have three distinct sections for our Scouts
We have Joey Scouts for boys & girls aged 6 & 7 years
The Joey Scout theme is:
'Help other people' (H.O.P)
Jump into Fun!
Joeys can leap headlong into fun with a programme of games, crafts and activities that lets them learn, mix with other children, and have a good time.
There are games with handprints and footprints that teach Joeys about themselves, there are active games that teach co-ordination and co-operation, and there are new things to try like clay work collage making and painting.
Jump Into Adventure!
For a Joey, life is an exciting adventure. At Joey Scout meetings we'll have exciting stories and adventures of our own. We'll even venture out on exciting trips to interesting places. Mums and Dads are welcome to venture out with us too and help us make new discoveries on our road to adventure!
Jump Into The Outdoors!
It's a big, fascinating world and Joey Scouts want to see more of it and learn more about it We'll have special visitors who'll help Joeys with nature knowledge and special displays and activities.
We'll also find out more about our namesakes - the Joeys and Kangaroos of Australia - and other types of wildlife. too.
The First Jump
Joeys is the first jump into the Scout Movement. Once a Joey Scout turns 8, the Joey can move straight into the Cub Scouts, then the Scouts and later still into the Venturer and the Rover sections.
Scouting is a world-wide organisation offering the opportunity for young people to discover the world beyond home and classroom, tapping the skills of others to learn, and passing that knowledge onto others.
Joey Scouts is a great way to take that first step towards a code of living that helps young people grow into capable, self-reliant individuals.
We then have Cub Scouts for Boys & Girls from 8 to 11years
Fun to Join
Cub Scouts have a lot of fun doing a lot of interesting things!
There are games to play codes and skills to learn, places to see and new friends to meet.
Cub Scouts all help each other, and we try to help other people too.
Each week you'll get together with other boys and girls your age and be led into adventure! You'll wear your own Cub Scout uniform to show you're one of us. And you'll be able to collect special badges to put on your uniform to show your achievements.
Fun Out And About
Cub Scouts get to see a lot and do a lot. We spend weekends away together camping, fishing and exploring. We go to sports meetings, visit factories, go to the zoo, the museum, or the fire department headquarters. We learn bushcraft, and we learn how to fly model aeroplanes. There's a lot more Cub Scouts do too. Why not come along and find out?
Fun In A Pack
You'll find there are 24 boys and girls in your Cub Scout Pack. All of them are just like you. They all might have different interests and be good at different things, but they all want to enjoy themselves and have fun. Like you, they'll be learning new things each week and discovering how great it is to be a Cub Scout.
Fun From The Start
At your first pack meeting you may feel a bit shy to begin with but it won't take long to get to know everyone.
You'll learn the Scout Salute, the Handshake, the Motto, the Grand Howl, Pack Calls, the Cub Scout Law and the Cub Scout Promise. The Leaders will help you. You'll soon be making new friends with the other Cub Scouts and having a terrific time!
Fun In A Six
Your Pack will be divided into 'Sixes', so named because each 'Six' will have 6 people in it. The first badge you'll put on your uniform is the colour patch of your Six.
Fun With Your Sixer
One of the boys or girls in your group will be your 'Sixer' (a bit like the Captain of your school sports team). You'll know your Sixer by the two yellow stripes worn on their left pocket. The Sixer often has a 'Second' as a helper (a bit like a Vice-Captain) who wears one yellow stripe. You too could eventually wear these stripes one day and become a Sixer or a Second of your Pack
Fun With Your Leaders
Your Cub Scout Leaders are adults who may once have been Cub Scouts themselves!
Your Leader is known as 'Akela' (The Wolf - the one who stands alone). Akela's helpers are known as 'Bagheera' (The Panther - the teacher of hunting) and 'Baloo' (The Bear - the teacher of Jungle Law).
The names are from the famous Rudyard Kipling story "The Jungle Book".
Fun Earning Badges
Cub Scouts can earn achievement badges by doing things that interest them and by learning new skills like cycling, electronics, sports, cookery, boating, writing and more.
There are also special Boomerang Badges earned by doing things like taking care of pets, hiking in the bush and building models. If you're 8 years old you can earn your Bronze Boomerang, then go for your Silver Boomerang at 9 and your Gold Boomerang at age 10.
Fun Near You
Then we have scouts for boys and girls from 10.5 to 15 years old
SCOUT ABOUT FOR ACTION
Action packed
When you become a Scout you're accepting a challenge to plunge into action. You could find yourself exploring a mountain wilderness, soaring on warm air currents high above the earth at the controls of a glider plane, helping in emergency rescues, operating a radio station, photographing wild animals, sending coded messages, searching for gold, canoeing down a swift river, camping out bush, recording your own songs or sailing across the ocean with the salt spray in your face.
Scouting gives you the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of exciting activities. It also gives you the greatest opportunity of all - the opportunity to develop real friendships by sharing the experiences of learning, growing and exploring the world with others.
Action You Create
Scouts aren't told what to do by adults. Your Scout Leaders are there to help you and give you direction but you are involved in planning your activities and making decisions with the other members of your Scout Troop.
Action To lead
As you learn and gain experience you'll discover not only more about the world around you and the adventures you can have, but more about working together and becoming a leader too. Under the guidance of your Scout Leader you can move up through the ranks to accept the challenge and adventures of leadership.
Action In A Patrol
As a Scout you will become a member of a Scout Patrol. You work as a team, helping each other, depending on each other, and each having a say in decision making. Your Patrol will have from four to eight members, and be led by a Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. The Patrol Leader organises your meetings and takes part in council meetings with other Patrol Leaders.
Action In A Troop
Several Scout Patrols make up a Scout Troop.
The Troop usually meets in a Scout Hall and is guidedby a Scout Leader. Broad programme management and routine business is handled by theTroop Council, which is made up of all Patrol Leaders and the Scout Leader.
