Who Is Canberra Gang Show?
Canberra Gang Show is a not just a great night at the theatre. It's more importantly an amazing training opportunity for around 200 young people of the Canberra region!
Canberra Gang Show is produced annually by a team of volunteers from the Scouting and Guiding communities.
Our show has been running for 43 years, first stepping into the spotlight in 1966 with the assistance of Melbourne Gang Show. In 1968 we went it alone and haven't slowed down since. Over our colourful history, we have only performed in 3 different venues. The Canberra Theatre between 1966 and 1974, the Playhouse until 1982 and Erindale Theater ever since.
In 2009 Canberra Gang Show features an original script written by the Canberra Gang Show Production Team..
Our performance season is staged in the July school holidays. Stay tuned for more details soon!
What is a Gang Show?
A Gang Show is a theatre production produced by Scouts and Guides, based on a concept devised by Ralph Reader.
Gang Shows are commonly a variety show featuring songs, dances and sketches.
The First Gang Show was produced in 1932 in London by a young rover, Ralph Reader. Most Gang Shows use material written by Ralph Reader to some extent. Canberra's traditional finale song is "Well go on and on", a song written by Reader.
The first Gang show in Australia was believed to have been produced in 1952. Today, scout shows can be found all over Australia and around the world
